2020 Ford Explorer ST 400 HP AWD Review, Specs, Engine, & Performance – The Edge ST won’t be the only SUV from Ford Performance. Satisfy the 2020 Explorer ST, a 400-hp family hauler based on the new, 6th-generation Explorer. It will make its debut next to the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 at the Detroit Auto Show these days.
2020 Ford Explorer ST 400 HP AWD Review
Although its styling may be evolutionary, the Explorer is, in fact, all new for the 2020 model year. It rides on a new rear-wheel-drive platform distributed to the new Lincoln Aviator, and Ford designed it with the ST variant in imagination from the beginning. The Explorer ST becomes the company’s 3.0-liter twin-turbo EcoBoost V6, helping to make 400 hp and 415 lb-ft of torque in this application. It’s the exact same base engine as the Aviator, though that truck is also provided as a hybrid with 450 hp and 600 lb-ft of torque.
Standard, the Explorer ST gets all-wheel drive and a 10-speed automatic gearbox. Ford will even present an ST Street Pack and an ST Track Pack which feature 21-inch wheels and improved brakes with red-colored calipers. We have difficulties to envision any person using an Explorer ST on track, but who is familiar with? Unknown person everything has occurred.
Of course, there are all the requisite aesthetic changes inside and out, as well, including black trim and a lot of Ford Performance and ST badges. Ford’s a tiny mummy on mechanized specifics, though it does say the Explorer ST will max out at 143 mph. We’ll try out and get a somewhat more from the automaker later these days. Certainly, the Explorer ST is not as exciting as the new GT500, but thanks to its new, rear-drive platform, we’re heading to maintain an open thought. At the very minimum, it’ll be a quick machine to haul close to your family which doesn’t cost virtually as much as a BMW X5 M or a Porsche Cayenne. And if Ford Performance SUV sales help account the development of more fast Mustangs, F-150s, and Rangers, then we’re all for an Explorer ST.
